Warehouse Revamp for Kubota Tractor Corporation Helps Company Expand

The Company: Kubota Tractor Corporation


Established in 1890, Kubota Corporation of Japan was created to design and build tractors that would meet the performance and maneuverability needs of Japanese farms. Farms in the United States shared those same needs, and the company saw that its equipment would fill a void here. So it introduced the Kubota 21 horsepower L200 to the U.S. market in 1969, which was wildly successful. Today, Kubota's products are manufactured and/or marketed in more than 130 countries.

Kubota Tractor Corporation was formed in 1972 to provide tractors to the U.S. market. Since then, the company has expanded its product offerings tremendously. It now manufactures and sells four lines of tractors, as well as tools like compact construction equipment and track loaders, lawn and garden equipment, and utility vehicles.

Kubota Tractor Corporation, based in Torrance, CA, is supported by four division offices, and its warehouses serve more than 1,100 authorized dealers in the U.S. One of those division offices, located in Suwanee, GA, ran into a problem a few years ago.

The Problem: Empty space and outmoded storage options

The Suwanee Kubota Tractor Corporation location had growing pains. Considered the primary storage center in the U.S. for Kubota used parts, its rapid expansion had created a major logistical issue. It had moved a portion of its inventory out of the warehouse and, as a result, had a lot of open space – 150,000 square feet of it, in fact.

The company was using old, outdated storage configurations for the inventory that remained. And since one-third of that inventory consisted of small parts, it had a critical need for efficient, state-of-the-art solutions.

The Solution: A custom system for Kubota Tractor Corporation

Kubota Tractor Corporation management had worked with Atlanta Bin & Shelving previously, so they knew who to call.

Given the complexity of the project, the two companies collaborated for four months on assessing Kubota's needs and formulating a workable, affordable plan. During this process, Atlanta Bin & Shelving paid close attention to small details and to the desires of its client.

Their final decision? Republic Shelving and SpeedRack pallet racks (in unique, custom colors). Atlanta Bin even partnered with another company to design and create a conveyer that would work in tandem with the shelving. It took roughly six weeks to procure the necessary materials and a month to install.

The resulting implementation worked. Atlanta Bin & Shelving created an efficient system for Kubota that both met the company's needs and had a contemporary, professional look. Thanks to the warehouse's new manageability and flexibility, Kubota Tractor Corporation's Suwanee location was ready for even more growth.
